With this in mind on the 29thof December I hurried round, bought a plane ticket to the Canaries and hired acar. 12hrs later I was stepping off the plane, and by the evening had sortedout some accommodation right in the centre of things.

My room even had a view of Europe’s Pipeline……

With a world class right hander if you look the other way……..!

My last day of 2010 was spent surfing the right-hander, getting some fun head high waves on my backside……and a killer last sunset of 2010…….

The evening was less memorable - or rather I remember less of it, which is probably a good thing for a new years eve!?! The next day was spent…….hungover, until 4pm when I got a head high beach break wave.

The swell picked-up throughout the 1st and by the 2nd it was well overhead…….see separate blog - Doming de Gigantes.

In the pics you can see some lone rights, and guys going for it........

As with any good trip you meet lot’s of great people along the way…….met a guycalled Jon, and we hung out surfing many of the same spots along the way…..

The daily diet, coffee, croissant and then into the meat and veg each day……….of waves, waves, waves!

The swell dropped, so it was time to check out some of the less well knownspots, a long walk, but x7 reef breaks to oneself – can’t complain……..which spot shall I head to……….?!

In the end I shared a right hander with a local, and we shared waves all toourselves.

Then before you knew it, it picked up again the next day boca del abajo at 15ft - believe it or not…….pics don’t do it justice, as usual, note the small dotsin the water……….I got 1 nice left, well overhead and cranking, with an almost free-fall of a drop. Made the drop, rode it for 100 metres, then someone tried to drop in at the end, but I’d made the main event, so didn’t care by that time. Plus after the drop-in, all the locals gave me waves & respect so it all panned out okin the end. :0)

The swell continued to build overthe next few days, I got more and more back-hand waves. But it did start toreach a level where I didn’t want to put my back out……….well overhead……..

In the pics you can see an outer 20ft outer reef set breaking half a mile out to sea on it's lonesome………

Every few days I stepped out of my front door and bought some fish from thelocal fishermen, baked in the oven for 20 mins with rice and vegetables itbecame part of my staple diet……

My temporary home…...…..looking back from the main break.

On my last morning, I got up early and was umming and arrrrring about whetherto go in or not, and then two of the UK’s biggest wave riders rocked up - RobSmall & Al Mennie.

I was soon persuaded in, with Rob’s enthusiasm, and we had a small fun surf. AfterwardsRob enthralled us both with another tall story………”I was in the barrel and it wasspitting fire…….”!!!!

My final act as ever was to return the rent-a-car, guess which was my car………!?!

So a good fun and quick last minute break – anyone can do it, and it only costabout £600 all in……….

Hope you had fun whatever you got up to……..
