Example Forecast 30/04/11 – 01/05/11 – Thursday PM Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

Highs above and to the left of us = groan! Okay it goes as follows…….a High of 1032 millibars will be over Norway / Scandinavia, with another North West of Eire at 1020 millibars. There will be two Low’s both in the 1000 millibar range in and around Galicia / Portugal, but the High pressure will dominate the mainland UK overall. By Sunday a minor / fat Low of over 1000 millibars will form off the North East Scottish Coast, but the continued High pressure over us will be at 1016 millibars. Swell in the South West will derive from a Portuguese Low of 996 millibars in the near Atlantic (to Portugal), but the continued High over the UK will lessen the effect of the Portuguese Low, and consequently weaken any swell coming in.

OVERALL

Deepest darkest parts of the South West / Kernow, Northern / North Western Scotland would all be our choices. The next best would be small Wales, or onshore East Coast waves?! – the choice is yours……!

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
