Example Forecast 04/06/11 – 05/06/11 – Thursday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

Okay the score is as follows, two High pressure’s one to the East of us over Scandinavia at 1020 millibars, but it will join across us (mainland UK) with another Near Western Atlantic High of 1036 millibars. So High central really, however there will be some Low action at either extremes, so to speak. It goes as follows…..several fat / weak Low’s in the 1000 millibar range will be tracking from Greenland around Iceland and then further North into both the Greenland and Norwegian Sea’s. By Sunday one of these Low’s at about 1010 millibars will be sitting right over Iceland, and all this time minor fronts will be pumping into North West Scotland over the period. Meanwhile at the other end of the country in the deepest darkest South West small pulses of occluding Low’s that are hitting mainland France and Spain will send minor pulses of swell under the main Near Atlantic fat High of 1036 millibars. So there is hope down in the far South West, East Coast players I’m afraid it looks like Sunday wind swell is the best you can hope for.

OVERALL

A mixed bag, parts of Scotland will be alright, and in deepest darkest Kernow there’ll be a ripple or two, otherwise not a lot to write home about. Make sure you read your local areas to make the most of what there is. Search and you will find something, somewhere…..!

BEGINNERS / IMPROVERS

A small fun weekend for you in the South West and smaller in Wales. The East Coast will be small too, but it will have an onshore wave by Sunday as the winds are stronger. Take your pick and have fun…..

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
