Example Forecast 13/08/11 – 14/08/11 – Thursday Arvo. Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

A Low of 994 millibars off the Western Irish Coast on Friday will deepen and move North east, up along the Irish and North West Scottish Coasts. By Saturday midday the Low will be off the North West Scottish Coast, and by midday Sunday it will have deepened further to 990 millibars and will be off the Northern Scottish Coast, situated between Scotland and Iceland. The Low’s movement will in part be due to Italian Highs on Saturday and a High in the Mid Atlantic that will slowly make it’s presence felt. By Sunday the Mid Atlantic High will have moved into Biscay at 1015 millibars, and will have moved from the Northern Near Atlantic into Northern England and Scotland on Saturday, this Low will remain more or less in situ on Sunday. A European High of 1020 millibars will be in the near Southern Atlantic, and will expand to encompass most of Biscay and the surrounding area by Sunday.

OVERALL

Shoulder high for the Scottish West Coast on Sunday, but with strong onshores, the South West is the next best bet, but again onshore and getting weaker over the period. So not great, but it’s always good to get wet! ;0)

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
