Example Forecast 20/08/11 – 21/08/11 – Thursday Arvo. Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

A deep-ish Low of 996 millibars South of Iceland, will impact Western Coasts on Saturday, it will have a long tail to it and will be rotating fast. As a consequence two cold / occluding fronts will pass over us as the Low moves West towards / just above Scotland on Sunday. These fronts will in turn create minor fat sub Low’s, meanwhile in our Southern sphere of influence a High of 1024 millibars will move into Biscay and Europe, producing Southerly / South Westerly winds overall on Saturday. But as everything moves West on Sunday, the winds to will come more from that direction everywhere. So hunting and lucking out is the key, how good is your karma?!

OVERALL

The South West will have waves throughout, and at times it’ll be clean and fun, search and ye shall find. Northern Scotland will also be fun, especially on Sunday, as it looks to get to shoulder high plus, with cross-offshore winds.

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
