Example Forecast 03/04/11 – 04/09/11 – Thursday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

As predicted a big / deep Icelandic Low of 988 millibars will hover in situ over the area on Saturday, but it will push fronts down across the UK and South West over the period. By Sunday this Low will splinter and create another (baby!) Low of 992 millibars which will move rapidly South off the South West of Ireland by Midday on Sunday - so it is a weekend of Western Coasts overall. There will be a Highs, to the East of us in Northern Europe, moving into Denmark, and the other in the Mid-Atlantic, but they will not come into our sphere of influence. But with the Low moving down from Iceland and the Highs either side of us the winds will change somewhat over the period. Make sure you read you’re relevant areas to make the most of what there is……

OVERALL

The Scottish North Coast is the place to head for, everywhere else will be an also ran. Having said that though, Wales and the South West will have fun-ish waves too, although some wind hiding will be needed especially on Sunday. Read your individual areas to make the most of what there is………

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
