Example Forecast 31/12/11 – 01/01/12 – Thursday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

As predicted earlier in the week, the Low action will be Northerly based and the High action Southerly, producing a similar scenario to last weekend, albeit a bit different! A deep Low of 960 millibars just off the Greenland Coast will splinter pushing a mini-me type Low into the Greenland Sea at the same pressure depth on Saturday. By midday on Sunday there will be one big Low in the 968 millibar range covering Iceland with two centres (one to the East and the other West), pumping cold fronts across the whole of the UK over the period. Meanwhile the High will be in the Southern area of influence for us, stretching from the Azores to Spain at about 1036 millibars. It will remain in situ throughout and will produce the Westerly / South Westerly winds that you’d expect.

OVERALL

Northern Scotland (sheltered spots), the South Coast and a few spots in Wales are your best hope overall.

BEGINNERS / IMPROVERS

Another big weekend, our advice would be to head to the South Coast to get some favourable-ish winds (or at least not dead onshore), and some slightly smaller waves for you guys.

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
