Example Forecast 20/10/12 – 21/10/12 – Friday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

A Russian High of 1032 millibars will stretch across Central and Mainland Europe all the way to France on Saturday, obviously dropping in pressure to 1016 millibars as it reaches France. A minor Low of about 1008 millibars over Northern Scotland on Saturday will play it’s part in the picture, but by Sunday this will have been filled by the Russian High as it pushes Westwards. Meanwhile in the Mid-Atlantic a Low of 976 millibars will be spinning happily around, but it won’t really be till Sunday that the swell get’s in. The Low won’t really change much overnight, on Sunday it will have fattened slightly to 982 millibars. But by Sunday the swell will start to come in peaking at dusk, make sure you read your relevant areas to make the best of what there is………

OVERALL

It looks like most of the action will be on Sunday, and mainly in the South West (and Wales) – which will be fun / ideal. Northern Scotland will also get some on Sunday.

BEGINNERS / IMPROVERS

The South West (and Wales), look to be fun. As ever look left and right before you paddle in to anything, as there will be a lot of people a lot better than you desperate to get waves without being dropped in on.

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
