Example Forecast 31/08/13 – 01/09/13 – Friday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

A series of Low pressures coming out of North Eastern America and Canada, will cross Greenland, and by Saturday a Low of 988 millibars over Northern Iceland will be the main scenario in play. So the Low’s will push swell in fronts as they move on their North Easterly track, so the majority of the swell (like the Low’s) will be Northerly based / focused. The movement of the Low’s is due to a big area of High pressure of about 1032 millibars in the Mid / Near Atlantic on Saturday midday. Sunday will see the High having moved into the South West of the UK, still at 1032 millibars; the Low will have moved North, into the Greenland Sea at 996 millibars. This will all mean a mixed bag, and it will be small overall, except in Northern and Western Scotland – good hunting wherever you are…….

OVERALL

Northern Scotland on Saturday and then Western Scotland at times are the best bet. The South West will also have a summer ripple on Saturday, but not a great one anywhere – good hunting…...

BEGINNERS / IMPROVERS

Lumpy and small in the South West and Wales, Saturday will be the better of the two days. But ideal for you guys, have fun…….

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
