Example Forecast 12/04/14 – 13/04/14 – Friday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

A deep Low of 968 millibars East of Iceland, will be on an Easterly track towards Norway, whilst to the South in the Near Atlantic a High pressure of 1028 millibars will be making it’s way into Western Europe, already pushing fronts of 1020 millibars across the Southern UK. Sunday will be a bigger version of Saturday, that is to say it will be more in depth. In short the High pressure will cover the Southern UK at 1024 millibars, with the centre being just West of us in the Near Atlantic at 1028 millibars. Meanwhile the Low pressure East of Iceland will be moving North up the Norwegian Coast at 976 millibars, another weak Low of about 996 millibars will come out of Greenland heading towards Iceland passing across the Denmark Strait. This will all mean that the majority of the swell will be around Scotland, but make sure you read the details to make the most of what there is………

OVERALL

Northern Scotland is the only place in the UK with any proper swell to talk of, but you will need to mind the wind, but if you can, you’ll have fun. Deepest darkest Cornwall is the only other real option, but it will be small.

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
