Example Forecast 19/07/14 – 20/07/14 – Thursday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

Saturday will see two fat areas of Low pressure of 1003 millibars to the West of Scotland, with a second off the South West of the UK at 1006 millibars. The High pressures will be in the Scandanavia at 1020 millibars, Southern Europe at 1016 millibars, and in the Western Mid-Atlantic at 1028 millibars, with a deepish Low of 996 millibars around Greenland. This complicated picture will simplify somewhat with the Greenland Low dropping down into the Mid-Atlantic at 995 millibars on Sunday, not only deepening in density, but also growing on area / mass. Saturday’s Low’s around the UK will head North, with the most Southerly ending up around Ireland at 1007 millibars, with the one West of Scotland on Saturday, having filled to only 1004 millbars, now around Iceland. All this will mean……

OVERALL

Most of the action will be in Eastern Scotland, then some in Wales, the South West, the South Coast and the Channel Islands on Sunday. But there will be a few ripples too on Saturday in most places, just not a lot!

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
