Example Forecast 25/10/14 – 26/10/14 – Tuesday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

A Low of 972 millibars in the Northern Hemisphere off the South East Coast of Greenland / West of Iceland by Midday Saturday, may well deepen / be deeper. But as it stands it will be the main entity, meaning that the majority of the swell will be Northern based pushing East and South East from the Low. As a result (as it stands) Ireland will be blocking a lot of the swell moving down into the South West at thius stage, but things may change. The High pressures in contrast will be in Western Russia / Eastern Europe at 1040 millibars, with another weaker High of 1020 millibars over Central Europe / the Mediterranean, extending all the way across the middle of the Atlantic. Sunday will the Low having tracked East across Iceland having deepened in the process to be about 9670 millibars as it enters the Norwegian Sea on Sunday. Another fatter Low of 996 millibars will be starting to rear it’s head out of Canada at 996 millibars, but it will be too far away from us to really have much impact, except to encompass the tail-end of Iceland’s Low to be one mass of Low pressure in the Northern Hemisphere. Meanwhile the Russian High pressure of 1040 millibars will still be in situ (this is what is keeping the Low around Iceland and not letting it drop down. The European tail-end of this entity will still be around mainland Europe and the Mediterranean at 1020 millibars. This will all mean that the majority of swell will be getting in to Northern spots and that the South West, Wales, South and East Coasts, won’t be getting a lot. But do read your areas (and neighbouring ones too) to fully understand what is happening, and make sure you stay tuned, as things may well change as the week goes on……

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
