PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

Saturday will see two deep areas of Low pressures, one of 948 millibars North West of Iceland in the Northern Atlantic (just off the Eastern Greenland Coast), and the other entity a double centred Low of 945 millibars and 947 millibars North East of Iceland in the Norwegian Sea. It should be noted that the North Atlantic Low will spawn to minor Lows within it’s isobars in the Mid-Atlantic at 994 millibars and another weak front of 993 millibars, both moving towards the UK. The High pressures will be in the Western Atlantic coming out of North America at 1028 millibars, three other big High pressures in the Mediterranean at 1030 millibars, Mainland Europe at 1033 millibars and Eastern Europe and 1037 millibars respectively. Sunday will see the North Atlantic Low pressure move Eastwards far into the Norwegian Sea filling as it goes to 950 millibars. Saturday’s Low will be replaced by another Low around Southern Greenland at 967 millibars, with a weak High of 989 millibars over Mainland Greenland. Meanwhile the North American High will cross the Atlantic and move into the Near-Atlantic at 1028 millibars, as it nears Mainland UK. Another High pressure will rise up from the Southern Atlantic at 1030 millibars moving into Spain and the Bay of Biscay, the other Main High pressure will over Eastern Europe at 0135 millibars. All this will mean that the swell will generally be in Western facing spots (and Scotland), read the details, especially the winds……

Big swell for Northern Scotland, and solid swell in the South West and Wales throughout. Good hunting wherever you are…………

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
