Example Forecast 02/05/15 – 03/05/15 – Friday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

Saturday will see a deep Low of 988 millibars just South West of Ireland with another Low in the far Western Atlantic coming out of North America at 1007 millibars. The High pressures meanwhile will be around the Canary Islands and Southern Spain at 1017 millibars, with two more in the Mediterranean at 1016 millibars and 1020 millibars. The rest of the Northern picture is somewhat complicated, with a High coming out of Canada / the Labrdaor Sea at 1020 millibars, a weak Low of 1005 millibars South East of Greenland , another High of 1028 millibars in the Greenland Sea, another weak Low of 1007 millibars off the Northern Norwegian Coast, and a High of 1017 around the Northern North Sea. This complicated picture will clarify itself somewhat by Sunday as the main Low off South Western Ireland will have rotated anti-clockwise coming to rest off the North West Irish Coast at 978 millibars, this movement and thebig area this system will be taking-up will be big, and will have pushed the other entities around. So without going in to, too much detail the High pressures will still be in situ, dotted around the spinning Low but clearly the Low will be the swell generator for all Westerly facing Coasts. Read the details for your respective areas to get the best of what there is……….

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
