Example Forecast 30/05/15 – 31/05/15 – Thursday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

Saturday will see a band of High pressure of 1031 millibars in the Central Mid Atlantic which will extend to Mainland Europe where there will be a weaker High pressure of 1016 millibars sitting over Central Europe. The Low meanwhile will come out of Greenland at 981 millibars pushing a cold front across the Northern Mid Atlantic towards us. The North Sea and Norwegian Sea will also see two Low’s that will be moving into Scandinavia and up the Norwegian Coast in the 994 millbar range plus. By Sunday the High pressure still in the Mid Atlantic but it will have been squeezed somewhat, as the Greenland Low will have dropped down South of Greenland into the Northern Atlantic, now at 983 millibars, with another fatter front of 991 millibars having splintered off from the cold front that was thrown out on Saturday from the original Low. This Low will be just off the North Scottish Coast, pumping swell for that region. Meanwhile the Low in the Norwegian Sea will have filled to 995 millibars and moved further North up the Norwegian Coast. This will all mean that, not a lot of swell will be getting in really, but do read the details to get the best of what there is……….

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
