Example Forecast 21/05/16 – 22/05/16 – Thursday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

Saturday will see a weak micro Low pressure of 993 millibars just off the North West Coast of Scotland, with another Low just North East of Scotland of 994 millibars in the North Sea. Meanwhile the counter to this will be a semi-circular ring South of us of High pressures, a High pressure in North Eastern Europe of 1021 millibars, another High of 1021 millibars around Tunisia in the Mediterranean, with the final High of 1022 millibars in the Southern Central Atlantic around the Azores. Finally to our West will be three Low press, two in the Labrador Sea in the High 990 millibar range, and another coming out of North east Canada at 992 millibars. But these Low pressures will have little bearing on us over the period. Sunday will see Saturday’s Low pressures having multiplied around our Northern regions, the majority of these will remain more or less in situ, so it will look like as follows………… A weak filling Low pressure of 1002 millibars will sit over Northern Scotland, with another fatter Low of 1001 millibars sitting North east of Iceland, a third Low pressure will be in the Norwegian Sea off the Norwegian Coast at 1002 millibars, with a fourth Low of 1002 millibars sitting in the North Sea just off the North Coast at 1002 millibars. Meanwhile to our South the Azorean High will have moved East to be 1025 millibars, just off the Portuguese Coast, with a Mid Atlantic Low of 990 millibars originally out of Canada now spinning in the Mid Atlantic, pushing the High into Portugal. One of the Low pressures in the Labradaor Sea will have moved East into the Northern Atlantic at 1001 millibars, just South East of Greenland. All this will mean swell but with variable winds making a lot of spots lumpy at times, so make use of dawn and dusk when the winds may be slightly calmer and lighter. Read your areas to get the best of what there is……….

OVERALL

Quite a few things have changed since earlier in the week, as you can see, so read the details for your area. Overall the South West looks to be the best bet overall, good hunting……….

BEGINNERS / IMPROVERS

Big and challenging in the South West for you, head for sheltered spots, or Wales, which will be a bit more manageable for you guys. Also make use of dawn and dusk when the winds may be slightly calmer and lighter, making things cleaner. Good hunting.……….

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
