PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

Saturday is a mess, with several Low’s to the South of us, one of 1008 millibars just West of Galicia, and other again of 1008 in Southern France, with a third and fourth in South Eastern Europe. Meanwhile in the Mid Atlantic there will be a double centred Low of 1009 millibars and 1007 millibars respectively, with a High pressure of 1026 millibars coming out of North America, with another Low of 1009 millibars just South East of Greenland, with another fatter Low moving through the Denmark Strait at 1011 millibars, and an area of higher pressure just South of Iceland at 1020 millibars. Meanwhile in the Norwegian Sea there will be a High pressure just off the North Coast of Norway at 1028 millibars, with another pressure system, this time a fat Low in the Southern Norwegian Sea at 1019 millibars. Sunday will see Saturday’s Galician Low pressure and European Low’s having moved East into mainland Europe, the former now having deepened to 997 millibars, now around Belgium. Meanwhile the Mid Atlantic Low pressures will still be in situ and still double centred at 1009 millibars and 1013 millibars respectively. The High coming out of North America will now be in the Western Atlantic, just South of Greenland and fatter at 1023 millibars, with a Low of 1006 millibars easing out of North America, pushing the High along. Another couple of Low pressures of 1018 millibars and 1015 millibars will be coming out of the Labrador Sea also pushing the previously mentioned High pressure, as well as the Low’s around Greenland and the Denmark Strait, both of which will be fatter at 101 millibars around Eastern Greenland and 1012 millibars around eastern Iceland respectively. Off Western Scotland and Northern Ireland will be a weak High pressure of 1019 millibars, whilst in the Norwegian Sea will be a Low of 1015 millibars. Phew, feel exhausted after all that! It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
