Example Forecast 20/08/16 – 21/08/16 Friday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

Friday will see a big Low of 976 millibars off the Coast of South Western Ireland, moving swiftly in towards the United Kingdom. By Saturday it will be moving over the Irish Sea and the Isle of Mann towards the mainland at 988 millibars, with another Low of 994 millibars in Mid-Atlantic driving it, and also moving in our direction. It’s movement will also be aided by a ring of High pressures starting off the Portuguese Coast at 1025 millibars, another in Western Russia at 1020 millibars, with another over Greenland at 1021 millibars. So basically there will be a band of deep Low pressures making their way towards the United Kingdom, however it should be noted that with all these High pressures this scenario could be advanced or delayed, as with this ring of High pressures more some variables are brought into the scenario. By Sunday the main United Kingdom Low will have crossed Scotland and moved into the Northern North Sea, fattening along the way to 1001 millibars. Saturday’s Mid-Atlantic Low will have deepened to 984 millibars, and as a result will have remained more or less in situ rotating on it’s axis in the Mid-Atlantic. This stagnation / pause in it’s normal trajectory is due to the continued ring of High pressures surrounding it, with a new High pressure over Western Greenland at 1019 millibars, with the original High pressure having moved East into the Greenland / Norwegian Sea at 1020 millibars, there will still be a High of 1020 millibars around Western Russia, and the High off the Portuguese High will still be in situ at 1025 millibars. As forecast this will mean big swell for South / South Western England and Wales, but read your areas to get the best of what there is.……….

OVERALL

A big fun one in the South West, Wales, the South Coast and Channel Islands, but seek shelter as the winds on Saturday will be the downer – wrap around spots are probably your best bet. Read the details of your area to get the best there is ………

BEGINNERS / IMPROVERS

VERY big for you in the South West and Wales, head for SUPER sheltered spots, the South Coast might be a better option overall, as it’ll be more reasonable, but still very challenging. Play carefully, and mind your board with the strong winds………

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
