Example Forecast 27/08/16 – 28/08/16 Tuesday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

Saturday will see a Low of 1002 millibars off the South West Coast of Ireland in the Near Mid-Atlantic, with another minor Low of 1012 millibars in the Channel. To counter this there will be a High pressure of 1025 millibars North of Iceland, entering the Greenland Sea through the Denmark Strait, with another High of 1020 millibars over Scandinavia. There will be a third High pressure of 1023 millibars in Western Russia / far Eastern Europe, another in the Mediterranean at 1019 millibars, and finally a fatter High of 1027 millibars over the Azores. There will be a deep Low of 991 millibars in the Labrador Sea, but it is unclear how this will come into play for Sunday and the period. As Sunday starts the Low off the South West Coast of Ireland will have moved North and East to sit over Northern Ireland and the North West of the United Kingdom at 1008 millibars, whilst the Low in the Labrador Sea will be 992 millibars starting to sit just off Southern Greenland. This will be the only Low pressure action to speak of, and the rest of the picture will be dominated by High pressures all round us, with a High pressure of 1020 millibars around Eastern Greenland / North of Iceland in the Greenland Sea, another High pressure in Western Russia / Eastern Europe at 1020 millibars, a weaker High pressure of 1016 millibars in the Western Mediterranean and a final High pressure in the Mid to Southern Atlantic around the Azores at 1028 millibars. All this will mean swell at times, with Sunday being the biggest of the two days everywhere, read the details and stay tuned as things may change as the week goes on……….

OVERALL

There will be chest high waves on Sunday in Northern Scotland. The South West will have swell throughout, Wales more so on Sunday. But by Sunday you will need to find spots that can handle the winds in Wales and the South West. But do read the details and stay tuned as things may well change as the week goes on………

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
