Example Forecast 27/08/16 – 28/08/16 Thursday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

Right a lot has changed since earlier in the week, so read the details for your area……….Saturday will see a Low of 1002 millibars off the South West Coast of Ireland in the Near Mid-Atlantic, with another minor Low of 1011 millibars moving up through the Channel. The counter to this there will be a High pressure of 1025 millibars North of Iceland, entering the Greenland Sea through the Denmark Strait, with another High of 1021 millibars over Scandinavia. There will be a third High pressure of 1023 millibars in Western Russia / far Eastern Europe, another in the Mediterranean at 1019 millibars, and finally a fatter High of 1027 millibars over the Azores. There will also be a relatively deep Low of 997 millibars coming out of the Labrador Sea. By Sunday the Low off the South West Coast of Ireland will have moved North and East to sit over Northern Ireland and the North West of the United Kingdom at 1007 millibars, with the Channel Low pressure now over Norfolk at 1012 millibars. The Low in the Labrador Sea will have dropped down into the North Western Atlantic, fattening in the process to 999 millibars. This will be the only Low pressure action to speak of, and the rest of the picture will be dominated by High pressures all round us, with a High pressure of 1016 millibars in the Norwegian Sea South East of Iceland, another High pressure of 1021 millibars in Eastern Scandinavia, with a third High of 1016 millibars around South Eastern Europe. The final two High pressures to complete the picture will be in the Western Mediterranean at 1021 millibars and in the Mid to Southern Atlantic around the Azores at 1026 millibars. With the continued presence of the High pressures, and the rather stagnant and non-deepening Low pressures, swell looks to be light / limited over the period, but read your areas to get the best of what there is……….

OVERALL

As the ring of High pressures squashes, or rather smothers the Low pressures and keeps any real swell from getting in things will be small everywhere. Read the details and don’t stop hunting, but if you see it ride it quickly and make full use of pushing tides to get that extra inch………

BEGINNERS / IMPROVERS

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
