PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

Saturday will see a Low of 1000 millibars of the Western Coast Irish Coast, with Ex-Storm Gaston filling fast in the Southern Atlantic, with two other fat-ish Low pressures coming out of North America in the Far Western Atlantic at 998 millibars and 997 millibars respectively. Then in the North Atlantic, just South East of Greenland at 995 millibars, whilst in the Northern Greenland Sea (North East of Greenland) there will be a 991 millibars, with another Low of 996 millibars in the Norwegian Sea of Norway. The High pressure to counter this will be in South East Europe / Western Russia at 1015 millibars, with another of 1021 millibars in the Mediterranean, with another High pressure around Portugal at 1022 millibars. Sunday will a progression and movement of everything, so the picture will have changed somewhat……. Saturday’s Irish Low will have crossed Ireland and the Mainland United Kingdom, moving into to the North Sea at 1004 millibars, meanwhile the North American Low pressures will combine to form one entity of 989 millibars, whilst Ex-Storm Gaston will still be around off North West Galicia at 1009 millibars, whilst the High pressure off Portugal will still be in situ at 1022 millibars. Other notable pressure systems will be a High of 1020 millibars in the Mediterranean, the other notes would be a deep Low in the Baltic Sea of 998 millibars and the Northern Norwegian Sea at 999 millibars, and a High of 1015 millibars in the Norwegian Sea. This will all mean that as the Low moves over Ireland and the Mainland United Kingdom Saturday and into Sunday there will be a lot of changes, especially Saturday afternoon, so make sure you read your areas to get the best of what there is……

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
