Example Forecast 08/10/16 – 09/10/16 Friday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

Saturday will see two fat High pressures, one of 1041 millibars of the North West Coast of Norway, with another of 1040 millibars in the Northern Baltic Sea around Sweden. These Highs will push an area of High pressure encompassing much of the UK, and there will be another High of 1027 millibars off the Western Coast of Portugal at 1027 millibars which will also stretch towards the United Kingdom and into the Bay of Biscay. The Low pressures to counter all this will be a Low of 1004 millibars in the Southern, Western Atlantic, whilst there will be another Low of 990 millibars in the Northern Atlantic East of Greenland (South West of Iceland). Sunday will see the High pressures to our North and East around Norway combine into one entity of 1042 millibars over Sweden / Finland. Meanwhile the High pressure West of Portugal will have moved North and East to sit over the United Kingdom fattening in the process to 1031 millibars, but it’s tail will stretch into the Bay of Biscay and towards Portugal. The Low pressures will be 1002 millibars around the Azores, with a High of 1030 millibars coming out of North America, in the Western Atlantic. To the North in the Labrador Sea will be a new Low of 994 millibars, with Saturday’s Low of Eastern Greenland still rotating around the Coast at 1006 millibars. All this will mean a bit of a mixed bag, clean for some spots, but with a general lack of swell - whilst where there is swell it will be lumpy. Read your areas to make the best of what there is……….

OVERALL

Northern Scotland will be cleanest, the next best looks to be the East Coast which will have swell, but be lumpy-ish due to the onshore winds. The far South West will have small, but clean ripples. Read your areas to get the best there is……….…

BEGINNERS / IMPROVERS

Small and clean in the far South West, Norfolk will be bigger and more fun for you guys overall. Good hunting wherever you are headed……….…

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
