Example Forecast 12/11/16 – 13/11/16 Thursday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

Saturday will see a big High pressure of 1031 millibars over the Azores, which will extend across much of the Southern Central Atlantic. To the North in the Denmark Strait (between Greenland and Iceland) heading towards the Greenland Sea, there will be a deep Low of 978 millibars with a very long tail of Cold front extending all the way down the West Coast of the United Kingdom and as far down as the Bay of Biscay and Northern Spain. Half way down this Cold front there will be a minor fat Low of 1011 millibars. To our East over North Eastern Mainland Europe there will be another High pressure of 1027 millibars, whilst to the far North West South West of Greenland (in the Southern Labrador Sea) there will be another deep Low pressure of 969 millibars, this will come more into play for Sunday. So by Sunday the Low coming out of the Labrador Sea will have moved East crossing Southern Greenland, being in the Northern Atlantic, just South East of Greenland at 973 millibars, this Low will have pushed Saturday’s Low around the Denmark Strait into the Greenland Sea where it will have filled. Whilst this Low pressure will as explained be sitting just South East of Greenland, it will through a plethora of Cold Fronts towards the United Kingdom. Meanwhile to the North East of the Azores Saturday’s High pressure will be moving, as it is squeezed and moved by these fronts. But the High pressure will still be in the 1033 millibar range as it heads from the South Western Atlantic towards South Western Ireland. Saturday’s Cold front will have crossed the Mainland United Kingdom, occluding as it goes into the Scandinavia, the North Sea and Mainland France respectively. All this will mean swell and fun waves for some spots, but a bit of traveling / searching may be needed, read your areas to get the best of what there is……….

OVERALL

A mixed bag, read Scotland if you’re Highland bound, the East Coast will also have waves and be fun at times and in places. The South West and Wales will have swell (more in the South West), but winds will be onshore – make full use of dawn and dusk. Read the details of your area to get the best of what there is………

BEGINNERS / IMPROVERS

Norfolk is your best bet, Wales will be the next best bet size-wise, although it will be a lot lumpier. Read your areas and mind the winds if it applies, good hunting………

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
