Example Forecast 12/02/11 – 13/02/11 – Thursday Version......

PRESSURE SYNOPSIS

Well, Greenland certainly is kicking the swell in our direction! A big mother of 940 millibars will be off the Eastern Greenland Coast, whilst a North Western North American Low of 960 millibars will start to move North East in our direction. By Saturday midday one Low in the 940 millibars range will be South West of Iceland / North West of Scotland, it will remain in situ more or less for the period, and kick cold fronts in our direction over the weekend. Meanwhile weak Highs of 1020 millibars in mainland Europe and Scandinavia will make the winds more variable over the period.

OVERALL

Right where to go?! Well our call would be.....................!?! The South West or Wales would be our call, make full use of the tides, as you will find they may give you more shelter from those winds. Some hunting is what is needed this weekend, as with the Highs and the fast moving cold fronts winds will be variable at times, so you will need to go with the flow to some extent to get the best of what there is.

BEGINNERS / IMPROVERS

Time to learn about shelter from the winds, consider this weekend as your first master class! Obviously you also need to be aware of the size and play within your boundaries, but the wind will be the key factor, or better put, hiding from it! Search and ye shall find.......

It should be remembered

It should be remembered:

  • Regardless of the Weekend Outlook if there is surf, you should be out there to improve your surfing ability
  • so unless it’s flat, just ignore it(!) and go surfing.
  • The Weekend Outlook is aimed at those who are competent at paddling out in 6ft plus surf and looking for perfect conditions.
  • This is a SURF report, we care about the waves, as to whether it is sunny, rainy, snowy or hailing is incidental, and neither here nor there as far as we are concerned.
  • Also note that this is always written for midday, so there may be variances during the AM and PM.
  • Wave Heights are written in what you are actually taking in the face / duck diving, we are not into macho bs of measuring the wave from the back, this is the real thing, what you drop and ride = simple.
